Ingredients
Scale
Dough and Filling
- 13.8 ounce can pizza dough
- 8 oz pepperoni slices
- 1 1/2 cups (170g) shredded mozzarella cheese
Butter Mixture
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Topping and Serving
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp grated parmesan cheese
- Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to prepare for baking the rolls.
- Prepare Dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a piece of parchment paper into a 10×15 inch rectangle for even layering.
- Make Butter Mixture: Combine the Italian seasoning and garlic powder into the melted butter and stir well. Brush half of this mixture evenly over the dough surface, reserving the other half for later.
- Add Fillings: Evenly layer the pepperoni slices over the dough, slightly overlapping as needed, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- Roll Dough: Starting from the long side, carefully and tightly roll the dough into a log with the seam side down. Transfer the log along with the parchment paper onto a baking sheet.
- Apply Egg Wash: Whisk the egg in a small bowl and brush it evenly over the top and sides of the dough log to promote browning.
- Bake Initial: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes until the dough starts to turn golden.
- Brush with Butter Mixture: Reheat the remaining butter mixture if needed, then brush it onto the top and sides of the roll for flavor and moisture.
- Bake Final: Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, until the roll is golden brown and fully cooked through.
- Add Parmesan and Cool: Remove from oven, sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese, and let cool for 10 minutes before slicing to allow cheese to set.
- Serve: Slice into 1-inch thick pieces and serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Use parchment paper for easy transfer and cleanup.
- For extra crispiness, bake on a preheated baking stone or steel if available.
- Substitute pepperoni with vegetarian pepperoni slices to make it vegetarian friendly.
- Brush with egg wash for shiny golden crust; skip if veganizing the recipe.
- Leftover rolls can be reheated in the oven or air fryer for best texture.
- Adjust seasoning in butter mixture to your taste, adding more garlic or Italian herbs if desired.
- If pizza dough is not available, homemade or store-bought pizza or bread dough can work as alternatives.
