Description

Delicious homemade Pepperoni Rolls featuring soft pizza dough filled with pepperoni and melted mozzarella, brushed with a flavorful garlic and Italian herb butter, baked to a golden perfection, and served with warm marinara sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough and Filling

  • 13.8 ounce can pizza dough
  • 8 oz pepperoni slices
  • 1 1/2 cups (170g) shredded mozzarella cheese

Butter Mixture

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Topping and Serving

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp grated parmesan cheese
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to prepare for baking the rolls.
  2. Prepare Dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a piece of parchment paper into a 10×15 inch rectangle for even layering.
  3. Make Butter Mixture: Combine the Italian seasoning and garlic powder into the melted butter and stir well. Brush half of this mixture evenly over the dough surface, reserving the other half for later.
  4. Add Fillings: Evenly layer the pepperoni slices over the dough, slightly overlapping as needed, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  5. Roll Dough: Starting from the long side, carefully and tightly roll the dough into a log with the seam side down. Transfer the log along with the parchment paper onto a baking sheet.
  6. Apply Egg Wash: Whisk the egg in a small bowl and brush it evenly over the top and sides of the dough log to promote browning.
  7. Bake Initial: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes until the dough starts to turn golden.
  8. Brush with Butter Mixture: Reheat the remaining butter mixture if needed, then brush it onto the top and sides of the roll for flavor and moisture.
  9. Bake Final: Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, until the roll is golden brown and fully cooked through.
  10. Add Parmesan and Cool: Remove from oven, sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese, and let cool for 10 minutes before slicing to allow cheese to set.
  11. Serve: Slice into 1-inch thick pieces and serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper for easy transfer and cleanup.
  • For extra crispiness, bake on a preheated baking stone or steel if available.
  • Substitute pepperoni with vegetarian pepperoni slices to make it vegetarian friendly.
  • Brush with egg wash for shiny golden crust; skip if veganizing the recipe.
  • Leftover rolls can be reheated in the oven or air fryer for best texture.
  • Adjust seasoning in butter mixture to your taste, adding more garlic or Italian herbs if desired.
  • If pizza dough is not available, homemade or store-bought pizza or bread dough can work as alternatives.
