Description

This Cinnamon Sugar Donut Sweet Bread recipe delivers a moist, flavorful loaf with a sweet cinnamon swirl, perfectly coated in a buttery cinnamon-sugar mixture. Ideal for breakfast or a delightful snack, this bread combines a tender crumb with a crispy, sugary exterior reminiscent of classic cinnamon sugar donuts.

Ingredients

Scale

Batter

  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or 1/2 cup milk + 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon molasses

Coating

  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a light-colored loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine canola oil, softened butter, and granulated sugar until well mixed. Add eggs and vanilla extract, stirring until smooth.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients and Batter: Gradually add in the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, and salt) and buttermilk, mixing until a uniform batter forms. Scrape the sides of the bowl to ensure there are no lumps.
  4. Prepare Cinnamon Batter: Transfer 1/2 cup of the batter into a smaller bowl. Add cinnamon and molasses, stirring until combined.
  5. Layer the Batter: Pour half of the plain batter into the bottom of the prepared loaf pan. Spoon half of the cinnamon batter in small dollops over it, then pour the remaining plain batter on top. Drop the remaining cinnamon batter on top and use a butter knife to swirl the two batters together.
  6. Bake the Bread: Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Prepare the Coating: While baking, pour melted butter into a large shallow dish. In another dish, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon.
  8. Remove and Cool the Loaf: Let the loaf cool for 10 minutes. Loosen edges and remove from the pan while still warm but manageable.
  9. Dip and Coat: Dip each side of the warm loaf into the melted butter until fully coated. Spoon any remaining butter over the edges for extra crispiness. Transfer the loaf to the cinnamon-sugar mixture and press to coat all sides and top evenly.
  10. Slice and Serve: Slice the loaf into pieces and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your delicious cinnamon swirl donut bread!

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs for better batter incorporation.
  • If buttermilk is unavailable, use milk with white vinegar as a substitute to create a similar tangy effect.
  • Swirling the batters gently helps create distinct cinnamon swirls without mixing them completely.
  • Greasing the pan well prevents sticking and ensures an even bake.
  • Dipping the bread while warm allows the coating to stick better and enhances crispiness.
  • Store leftovers tightly wrapped at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  • Reheat slices in the microwave for 10-15 seconds for a fresh-baked feel.
