Description

This White Pizza with Garlic Pizza Sauce features a creamy garlic sauce made from butter, flour, milk, and parmesan cheese, spread over a crispy homemade or store-bought pizza crust. Topped with low moisture mozzarella, parmesan, and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning, it is baked until golden and finished with fresh basil for a fragrant and delicious pizza experience perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Garlic Pizza Sauce Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1¼ cup whole milk
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, very finely chopped (or 3 teaspoons jarred minced garlic)
  • ¼ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese

Pizza Ingredients:

  • 1 pizza crust, homemade or store-bought (12-14 inch)
  • 8 oz low moisture mozzarella cheese, grated
  • ½ cup garlic pizza sauce (from recipe above)
  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Garnish:

  • 2 tablespoon fresh basil, chiffonade

Instructions

  1. Prepare Garlic Pizza Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Whisk in the all-purpose flour and continue whisking for about 2 minutes, making sure not to brown the mixture.
  2. Make Sauce Base: Slowly whisk in the whole milk continuously until the mixture becomes smooth, thick, and bubbly, which will take about 3 to 5 minutes.
  3. Season Sauce: Add ¼ teaspoon sea salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper, and the finely chopped garlic cloves. Whisk everything to combine well.
  4. Add Cheese: Stir in the freshly grated parmesan cheese and whisk until just melted. Remove the sauce from heat and allow it to cool before using, or cover and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
  5. Preheat Oven and Prepare Crust: Preheat your oven to 450ºF. Roll out your pizza crust onto a 12-14 inch pizza pan or rectangular baking sheet if preferred.
  6. Season Crust: Brush the rolled-out crust evenly with olive oil and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
  7. Assemble Pizza: Spread the prepared garlic pizza sauce evenly over the crust. Then sprinkle grated mozzarella and parmesan cheeses on top.
  8. Bake Pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12 minutes until the crust is cooked through and cheeses are melted and slightly golden.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and garnish with fresh chiffonade basil. Slice and serve immediately alongside a side salad or roasted vegetables.

Notes

  • You can use a rectangular baking sheet instead of a pizza pan and cut the slices into squares or long rectangles like breadsticks.
  • Serve the pizza with a side salad or roasted vegetables for a balanced meal.
  • If desired, substitute fresh garlic for jarred minced garlic for convenience.
  • The sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 5 days, making meal prep easier.
  • Ensure not to brown the roux (butter and flour) to keep the sauce rich and smooth.
