Scale
Main Ingredients
- 2 slices bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
- 2-3 slices cheese (cheddar, American, or your favorite melting cheese)
- 1-2 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
- Butter the Bread: Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice to ensure a crispy and golden exterior.
- Place First Slice: Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in a preheated skillet or non-stick pan over medium heat to start toasting.
- Add Cheese: Layer the cheese slices on top of the bread evenly for full coverage and optimal melt.
- Top with Second Slice: Place the second slice of bread on top of the cheese, buttered side up to cook the top side.
- Cook First Side: Cook the sandwich for 3 minutes until the bottom slice is golden brown and crispy, then carefully flip it.
- Cook Second Side: Cook for another 3 minutes on the other side to fully melt the cheese and toast evenly.
- Rest and Serve: Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it rest for 1 minute before slicing and serving to allow the cheese to set slightly.
Notes
- For extra crispy bread, use mayonnaise instead of butter on the outside of the slices.
- Try mixing cheeses like cheddar, mozzarella, and gouda for a more complex flavor.
- Cook on low-medium heat to ensure cheese melts fully without burning the bread.
- Add extras like cooked bacon, sliced tomatoes, or caramelized onions for a gourmet twist.
