Description

These festive Halloween Donuts are a delightful treat perfect for the spooky season. Made with a rich cocoa batter and topped with a sweet glaze and colorful Halloween sprinkles, they’re easy to bake and fun to decorate, making them an ideal dessert for parties or a playful snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Donut Batter

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk

Glaze & Decorations

  • 2 cups confectioner’s sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • ¼ cup Halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pans: Preheat the oven to 350°. Spray two 6-cup donut pans or one 12-cup donut pan with cooking spray, and set them aside to ensure the donuts won’t stick.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder until evenly combined.
  3. Cream Sugar and Oil: In a separate large bowl, combine the sugar and oil. Whisk them together vigorously until the mixture becomes fluffy and well incorporated.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time to the sugar and oil mixture, mixing well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract and continue beating until smooth.
  5. Combine Batter: Gradually pour the dry flour mixture and the milk into the wet ingredients. Fold gently until just mixed, being careful not to over-mix, to keep the donuts tender.
  6. Fill Donut Pans and Bake: Spoon about 3 tablespoons of batter into each donut cup. Place the pans in the oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a donut comes out clean.
  7. Cool Donuts: Remove the donuts from the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack to room temperature before glazing.
  8. Prepare Glaze: While the donuts cool, stir the confectioners sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth and thick, creating a sweet glaze.
  9. Glaze and Decorate: Dip the tops of the cooled donuts into the glaze, then place them on parchment paper. Immediately sprinkle the Halloween sprinkles over the glaze before it sets.
  10. Set and Serve: Let the glazed donuts rest until the glaze is fully set. Serve them at room temperature and enjoy the festive treat.

Notes

  • Be careful not to over-mix the batter to ensure light and fluffy donuts.
  • If you don’t have donut pans, use a mini muffin pan and adjust baking time accordingly.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute milk with almond or oat milk and use vegan-friendly sprinkles.
  • Donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Feel free to customize the glaze with food coloring or different sprinkles for other occasions.
