Description

Halloween Pretzel Monster Eyeballs are a fun and spooky treat perfect for Halloween parties. Crunchy pretzels topped with melty Hershey Hugs, sprinkled with red sanding sugar, and crowned with colorful M&Ms create an eerie eyeball effect. The finishing touch of black decorating gel adds the creepy pupil detail, making these snacks both delicious and visually festive.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 35 waffle pretzels
  • 35 Hershey Hugs (do not use Kisses as they don’t melt well)
  • Red sanding sugar
  • 35 M&M’s
  • Black decorating gel

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for melting the chocolate hugs just right.
  2. Arrange Pretzels: Lay the waffle pretzels out on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat for easy cleanup.
  3. Add Hershey Hugs: Place one Hershey Hug on top of each pretzel carefully, ensuring they are centered for even melting.
  4. Melt Chocolate: Place the cookie sheet in the oven for 7 minutes, watching closely to ensure the Hugs become shiny and soft but do not fully melt.
  5. Add Red Sugar and M&M: Remove from the oven quickly, sprinkle red sanding sugar over each softened Hug, then press an M&M candy into the center with the “M” side facing down to create the eyeball iris.
  6. Apply Black Gel: Dab a very small amount of black decorating gel onto the center of each M&M to resemble the pupil, being careful not to overapply as it may take longer to dry.
  7. Set in Freezer: Place the tray in the freezer for about 1 hour to allow the chocolate and gel to set firmly before serving.

Notes

  • Use Hershey Hugs instead of Kisses for better melting and appearance.
  • Watch the pretzels closely in the oven to prevent the chocolate from fully melting and losing shape.
  • A very small dab of black gel works best for drying and a neat finish.
  • Freezing the eyeballs helps them set quickly and hold their shape.
  • Silicone baking mats or parchment paper make cleanup much easier.
