Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 15-20 pretzel sticks
Fondant Decorations
- 200 grams white fondant (7 ounces)
- Orange gel food coloring
- Green gel food coloring
- Yellow gel food coloring
- Purple gel food coloring
- Black gel food coloring
Chocolate Coating
- 25 grams chopped white chocolate (2 tablespoons)
- 25 grams chopped dark chocolate (2 tablespoons)
Instructions
- Prepare Tray: Line a small tray with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and to hold the pretzels while decorating.
- Tint Fondant: Divide the white fondant into five golf ball-sized portions, about 40 grams each, plus one small marble-sized portion. Add gel food coloring to each ball to create orange, green, yellow, purple, black, and a small neutral color. Wrap each ball tightly in clingfilm/plastic wrap and keep covered when not in use to prevent drying.
- Create Decorations: Form the tinted fondant into Halloween-themed shapes approximately 1 inch in size, such as candy corn, ghosts, mummies, monsters, pumpkins, bats, and witch hats. Press each decoration onto the top end of a pretzel stick to create a 1/2-inch deep indentation, then carefully remove the fondant piece and place it back on the tray. Cover the tray lightly as you work to keep decorations from drying out too quickly.
- Dry Fondant: Arrange all fondant decorations on the prepared tray and set aside to allow them to dry and firm up, which usually takes about 1-2 hours to ensure they hold their shape when attached later.
- Melt Chocolate: Place white and dark chocolate separately in microwave-safe bowls and melt them carefully in the microwave, heating in 15-second bursts and stirring between until smooth.
- Dip and Assemble: Dip one end of each pretzel stick into the melted chocolate, ensuring an even coat. Then, immediately attach a fondant decoration onto the chocolate-dipped end, pressing gently to secure. Use dark chocolate for attaching black fondant decorations and white chocolate for white or lighter-colored decorations, though either chocolate can be used as preferred.
- Set Pretzels: Place the assembled pretzels back onto the prepared tray and let the chocolate set at room temperature until firm, about 30 minutes.
- Storage: Store the finished Halloween pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature. They will keep fresh for up to two weeks.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring to prevent fondant from becoming too soft or sticky that liquid colors might cause.
- Work with gloved hands to keep colors vibrant and prevent discoloration of the fondant.
- Allowing fondant decorations to dry before attaching helps maintain their shape and makes assembly easier.
- If chocolate thickens while dipping, reheat gently in the microwave for a few seconds to maintain a smooth consistency.
- These treats are best enjoyed within two weeks but may soften if stored in humid conditions.
- You can customize the shapes and colors to suit your personal Halloween theme.
