Ingredients
Scale
Bar Layer
- 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), at room temperature
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1 cup flaked coconut
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Frosting
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons milk
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Chocolate Layer
- 12 oz chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F to prepare for baking the bar layer.
- Make Bar Base: In a mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to beat 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup sugar until creamy. Add the egg and vanilla, then mix until combined. Stir in graham cracker crumbs, coconut, and chopped walnuts. Press this mixture evenly into a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Bake Bars: Place the pan in the oven and bake for 20 minutes until the bars are set and golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool completely.
- Prepare Frosting: Beat 1/2 cup butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar followed by the milk, beating continuously until the frosting is light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Apply Frosting: Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled bar layer for a creamy finish.
- Melt Chocolate Layer: Microwave the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until fully melted. Stir in 2 tablespoons butter until smooth.
- Top Bars with Chocolate: Pour and spread the melted chocolate mixture over the frosted bars evenly.
- Set and Serve: Allow the chocolate topping to set at room temperature or refrigerate briefly to harden. Once set, slice into 12 squares and serve. Enjoy your Heavenly Squares!
Notes
- To make spreading easier, chill the bars after frosting and before spreading the chocolate layer.
- You can substitute walnuts with pecans or almonds for a different nutty flavor.
- Use dark chocolate chips for a richer taste or milk chocolate for a sweeter layer.
- Ensure the bars are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
