Ingredients
Scale
Brisket and Seasoning
- 1 medium-large beef brisket, about 5 pounds
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Honey BBQ Sauce
- ½ cup ketchup
- ½ cup molasses
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
Thickening Mixture
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions
- Prepare the slow cooker and brisket: Lightly grease your slow cooker and place the beef brisket inside. This prevents sticking and allows even cooking.
- Make the BBQ sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, molasses, honey, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and apple cider vinegar. Set the sauce aside for later use.
- Season the brisket: Mix garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper in a small bowl. Rub this seasoning blend evenly all over the brisket to build flavor.
- Cook the brisket: Pour the prepared honey BBQ sauce over the seasoned brisket. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 10 hours until the brisket is tender and easily shreddable.
- Make the thickened sauce: After cooking, carefully pour the liquid from the slow cooker into a large saucepan. Bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir the cornstarch into cold water until fully dissolved, then slowly add this mixture to the boiling sauce. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir continuously until the sauce thickens. Remove the sauce from heat.
- Shred and serve: Use two forks to shred the beef brisket inside the slow cooker. Pour the thickened sauce back over the shredded beef, stir well to combine, and serve hot for a delicious meal.
Notes
- The sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until ready to use, saving preparation time on the day of cooking.
- For even better flavor, allow the brisket to rest covered for 15-30 minutes after cooking before shredding.
- If you prefer a thicker or thinner sauce, adjust the cornstarch amount accordingly.
- Serve with classic sides like coleslaw, baked beans, or cornbread for a complete meal.
